Successful Small Business Owner: Kevin retains a strong work ethic starting from his senior high school days working at construction sites and then for the Department of Forestry as a seasonal firefighter. Upon his marriage Kevin and his wife used their wedding money to rent a small storefront and open a family arcade. Their hard work and long hours ultimately led the young couple to purchase a commercial building and expand their business and number of employees. While the arcade is long gone - it was this purchase of their first commercial property that led Kevin to help form his now long held family owned commercial property business, and create several residential property businesses owned and operated by he and his wife.
Kevin’s unwavering advocacy on behalf of small businesses, job creation and community involvement resulted in Kevin having served as a former Board member on his local Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the local Economic Development Committee, past Riverside County Community Development Advisory member, former co-chairman of the Murrieta-Temecula Government Action Committee, past member of the Greater Riverside Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee, and as a former Director with several non-profit organizations.
Public Safety Servant: In 1977 Kevin started his long and dedicated service to the citizens of Riverside County when he became a Riverside County Volunteer Firefighter. During his 29 years of service to our county, Kevin responded to over 4000 emergency responses throughout Riverside County and was ultimately promoted to the rank of Volunteer Fire Captain, specializing in communications, and resource planning for large scale wildland fires and emergencies occurring in Riverside County. During his service Kevin received four Meritorious Service Awards, and in 1992 Kevin was recognized by Brigadier General James D. Delk for his service during the Los Angeles riots. In 2001 Kevin was hired by the Riverside County Fire Chief to help the department apply for and obtain numerous grants to purchase critically needed firefighting and rescue equipment to serve the citizens of Riverside County.
Public Service: In 1980 Kevin Jeffries was elected to the Lake Elsinore Parks & Recreation District Board of Directors where he served as advocate for the creation of community parks and sports fields. In 1982 Kevin was appointed to the Riverside County Board of Supervisors Parks & Recreation Advisory Commission to help develop and review regional park and trail systems. After taking a 5-year hiatus from politics to start a family and work at his family-owned business, Kevin returned to elected public service in 1990 when he was elected to the Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District Board of Directors. Kevin served 8 years on the EVMWD board, building a reputation as both an accessible and ethical representative who would not hesitate to question spending and oppose rate increases. Kevin would later be unopposed when he ran for re-election to the EVMWD Board in November 1994.
In 1998 Kevin was then elected to the larger regional water provider Western Municipal Water District. During his tenure he was successful in eliminating an unfair “Water Standby” (property) tax, and he worked to hold the line on spending and rate increases. In 2002 Kevin was selected to serve as a commissioner (and Chairman) of the Riverside County Local Agency Formation Commission.
After nearly 8 years of service on the Western MWD Board of Directors, Kevin was elected in November 2006 to represent nearly 450,000 Riverside County residents in the California State Legislature. Kevin currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the Assembly Transportation Committee, member of the Housing & Community Development Committee, member of the Select Committee on Inland Empire Transportation, and as the Chairman of the Rural Fire Protection Working Group. As our representative Kevin has been recognized for his ability to work across partisan lines for the benefit of Riverside County, while still holding firm to his promises and commitments to oppose new taxes, reduce burdensome regulations and increase transparency and public oversight of the California State Legislature.
